Eight unique features differentiate FocalPoint Clustering from other k-means analysis procedures, and a separate FocalPoint Clustering User Guide is available.

Our revised classification of single malt whiskies was produced using FocalPoint Clustering.  The classification is available here and was presented at CSNA 2000 and IFCS 2000.

FocalPoint Clustering was developed for McKinsey & Co and has subsequently been generalised for wider application within ClustanGraphics.  We are most grateful to McKinsey and Co. for their sponsorship of this unique addition to ClustanGraphics.

FocalPoint Clustering was presented at the following conferences:

  • GfKl 2000 the 24th Annual Conference of the German Classification Society, University of Passau, 15-17 March 2000.
  • CSNA 2000 , at the annual meeting of the Classification Society of North America, Université de Montréal, 9-11 June 2000.
  • IFCS 2000 , the International Federation of Classification Societies, Namur University, 11-14 July 2000.

A trial version of FocalPoint is included on a CLASS CD, which is published with the Journal of Classification, Springer-Verlag New York, May 2000.  The trial version runs all ClustanGraphics4 features including FocalPoint Clustering on the Mammals data set.

We invite users to send us comments on their experiences using FocalPoint and suggestions for improvements, and thus influence future development.  A form is included with the program for this purpose, and e-mail messages can be sent to technical@clustan.com

There are eight unique features that differentiate FocalPoint Clustering from other k-means analysis programs, and a separate FocalPoint Clustering User Guide.

FocalPoint was used to produce our revised classification of single malt whiskies.  The new classification is available here.
